Folk Dances From ‘Round The World: Volume 3
In all countries, folk dancers share a common heritage since the basic themes were first developed by primitive man. One of the earliest forms of dance was the circle, which symbolized magic, and which was derived from the ritual circling around an object of worship. The chain dance developed from the broken circle. Inevitably, changes and adaptions relating to religious, historical, geographical, climatic and other factors led to the development of particular dances in different regions. since these changes followed ethnological rather than political boundaries, many European countries share common folk dance forms such as the polka, schottische, waltz, mazurka and two-step.
